What is first article inspection?

The results are usually recorded in a first article inspection report, providing clear evidence that the part meets the agreed standard.
It may be required for a completely new component, following a design change or when production resumes after a significant change to the manufacturing process.
Why is first article inspection so important?

First article inspection confirms that the initial component has been manufactured to the required dimensions and tolerances. It provides confidence that the drawing has been understood correctly and that the manufacturing process has been set up as intended.
