“The first 50 kilowatts of solar panels generated exactly what was promised in our proposal, pretty much to the kilowatt hour.”
That’s our Managing Director, Stuart Yalden, looking back to 2013. Energy costs were rising, our CNC machines were running all day, and we wanted more control over one of our biggest overheads. So, we tested solar on our factory roof with Good Energy.
Thirteen years and 1.8 million kWh generated later (equivalent to 35 million cups of tea, or 6 million miles driven in an electric car, if you’d love to know like us!), Good Energy has featured us in a new case study and video about the difference solar has made to our business.
It’s a story we’re pleased to see told. Our solar panels now save us around £75,000 a year and cut our emissions by 88 tonnes. Combined with a 100% renewable tariff for the electricity we don’t generate ourselves, our electricity is now zero-carbon.
In the video, Stuart explains why we added solar in phases, how it has made us more profitable, and why customers are increasingly interested in visiting a factory powered by the sun.
His advice to other manufacturers? “If you own the building, it’s a no-brainer.”
We’d like to thank the Good Energy team for their support since that first 50 kilowatt system, and for giving us the chance to share our experience with other businesses thinking about solar.
