November looks set to be a busy month for us! G W Martin has been named a finalist in two categories at the Hampshire Business Awards 2026: SME Business of the Year and the Sustainability Award.
For a family-run engineering business that has been part of Hampshire since 1959, being recognised on a county stage means a great deal.
SME Business of the Year
This category looks at the whole business: how it has grown, how it treats its people and where it’s heading next. Over the last few years, we’ve invested around £3 million in new equipment, which has allowed us to take on more technically demanding work for customers. We’ve also kept our focus on quality, and we continue to work towards AS9100 accreditation.
Sustainability Award
Sustainability has been part of how we run the business for a long time. Our 240kW solar installation generates over 170,000 kWh a year and meets around 30% of our operational needs. The rest of our electricity comes from certified renewable suppliers, so our site runs on Net Zero electricity. We’ve moved to LED lighting across the site, we recycle over 90% of our waste, and our ISO 14001 certification keeps us measuring and improving our environmental performance year after year.
We also recently passed our ISO 14001 surveillance audit alongside ISO 9001, which is a good reminder that this work is checked and refined continuously rather than left to one-off projects.
Looking ahead
Awards are a lovely moment to pause and reflect, but the real work happens on the shop floor every day. To everyone at G W Martin, thank you. We’re incredibly proud of what you’ve achieved, and we’re looking forward to seeing what the finals hold.
